Learning Interaction between Community and School

The main objective of this research is to examine the nature and condition of interaction of learning process between the community and the school. The study has been designed to achieve theoretical generation that would lead to a grounded theory by means of qualitative research. In order to gain understanding of the phenomena, the researcher had done a number of in- dept interviews with key information including school administrators, community leaders, teachers, schools board members, and parents of whom were selected by means of theoretical sampling.

The study found that there were three learning patterns in the schools including; 1) one way learning or teacher-centered learning, 2) standardization learning or uniformity learning, 3) transaction learing.

There are two learning pattern in the school were conditioned by the centralization of educational bureaucratization of school administration and management.

There were aspects of learning process in the community found by this research: 1) the system of knowledge in various dimension of community life including rice growing, food gathering, busketing, weaving, seeding, and herbal medicine: 2) the accumulation and diffusion of knowledge through families and kins, community leaders, verbal communications, group interactions, written materials, and other community activities; 3) the institutions transferring knowledge including the family, the temple, and local wisdom; and 4) the creation and modification of knowledge.

The study found that there were two learning interactions patterns between community and school; 1) learning interactions pattern in horizontal way; equity in relationship between community and school including group process, group dynamic, group participant and win-win situation; 2) learning interactions in vertical way there are one way communication, hegemony by one side, one way centered by bureaucracy. There were conditioned by the leadership, distance, community coordinator and the same culture
